Why Microlending?

It is becoming increasingly difficult for the economically disadvantaged to find employment.  The areas they reside either do not have jobs or the wages earned are not sufficient for living.  St. Vincent has a significant number of persons below the poverty line, primarily a rural phenomenon.  Most of the population in St. Vincent is classified as living in rural areas.  The youth population is also increasingly exhibiting high levels of poverty. Poverty in the Windward Islands reflects low rates of economic growth due to the decline in competitiveness of the banana export.  This sector feels trapped in their state of social, political and economic alienation, rural underdevelopment and the inability of persons to realize their full potential.

To survive many people must create their own jobs by forming small or micro businesses.   These people have good ideas but have no working capital and no credit established; therefore, it is nearly impossible to borrow money from any banking institution.

A small loan helps in the purchase of raw materials or supplies for the entrepreneur.  As sales grow profits increase.  This allows people to pull themselves out of poverty.  Providing small loans with a workable interest rate from an institution willing to assist both financially and technically promotes success for the entrepreneur. The National Development Foundation is here to provide microlending to anyone with motivation, creativity, and determination.  With a financial, technical business assistance, and a helpful staff the NDF plans to provide outreach to all entreprenuers in need.
